Macuna
Dolichos pruriens [Macuna pruriens] white bean is commonly known as 'cowhage' in latin America

Traditionally, Dolichos pruriens finds use in number of diseases and is commonly used as carminative, hypotensive & hypoglycemic agent. From phytochemistry point of view, the powder contains L-dopa, tryptamine alkaloids, lecithin and tannins.Traditionally it's been used to increase libido, sexual desire, & physical ability. The seeds produce phyto-chemicals that support healthy levels of testosterone in both men and women. It also aids in the production of a hormone commonly associated with the “pleasure system” (L-Dopa) of the brain, providing feelings of enjoyment and motivation.
L-Dopa is an amino acid that converts into dopamine. Dopamine is an essential component of our body and it’s required for proper functioning of the brain. Research discovered the body converts the amino acid tyrosine into L-dopa; L-dopa is then converted into dopamine. Without the neurotransmitter dopamine to serve a damping effect on neural transmissions, muscles become tense and tremble.

L- Dopa also contains natural secretagogues which may support the body’s ability to stimulate the natural release of HGH human growth hormone. The blood carries the dopamine into the brain, where it naturally increases HGH production from the pituitary gland. The increased dopamine levels also optimize the production of other hormones, including testosterone, leading to increased sex drive and improved sexual performance for both men and women, beneficial in stimulating muscle growth, as well as burning fat from fat cells.

Major chemical constitutes are L-Dopa, mucunadine, mucunain, mucunine, phenylalanine, prurienidine, prurienine, amino acids, alkaloids, lecithin and tannins.

The seeds of velvet bean are high in protein, carbohydrates, lipids, fiber, and minerals. They are also rich in novel alkaloids, saponins, and sterols. The seeds of all mucuna species contain a high concentration of L-dopa; velvet bean seeds contain 7-10% L-dopa. Concentrations of serotonin also have been found in the pod, leaf and fruit. The stinging hairs of the seed pods contain the phytochemical mucunain, which is responsible for causing skin irritation and itch.

The main plant chemicals found include: alkaloids, alkylamines, arachidic acid, behenic acid, betacarboline, beta-sitosterol, bufotenine, cystine, dopamine, fatty acids, flavones, galactose d, gallic acid, genistein, glutamic acid, glutathione, glycine, histidine, hydroxygenistein, 5-hydroxytryptamine, isoleucine, l-dopa, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, lysine, mannose d, methionine, 6-methoxyharman, mucunadine, mucunain, mucunine, myristic acid, niacin, nicotine, oleic acid, palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, phenylalanine, prurienidine, prurienine, riboflavin, saponins, serine, serotonin, stearic acid, stizolamine, threonine, trypsin, tryptamine, tyrosine, valine, and vernolic acid.

Fatigue, Obesity, Libido Supplement

Type II diabetes is the inability for the cells to respond as well to the effects of insulin, an occurrence known as insulin resistance. While there is every possibility that you can come across a person that looks healthy and fairly lean that has type II diabetes or a certain level of insulin resistance, the likelihood is that the person will look somewhat overweight. It is also likely that the majority of overweight people that you see will have some degree of insulin resistance.

Unfortunately for many men the effects of insulin resistance like this elevates glucose levels in the blood which can increase oxidative stress causing havoc with nerves that control blood flow to the penis. The result of this is much limper erections, and in some cases no erection at all. This can lead to a degraded mental state as the man feels very un-man-like. Unfortunately, you do not need full-blown diabetes to suffer effects similar to these, and a lot of men these days tend to get it. Research is ever-looking at ways to combat erectile dysfunction, and a new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine has found another possibility.

Dolichos pruriens and Mucuna pruriens is an herb found in Asia and Africa. Used extensively in ancient medicine, it has been found to be quite an amazing herb. It boosts luteinizing hormone, dopamine and HGH human growth hormone, which help promote testosterone, reduce prolactin and increase cognition. It has also been shown to have anti-diabetic and anti-oxidant effects, and it is these effects that researchers from the University of Madras in India investigated.

In order to do this they compared an extract of Dolichos pruriens against sildenafil [Viagra®] in a diabetic-model rat. This is interesting firstly because sildenafil or other PDE-5 inhibitors are often prescribed by physicians to men with insulin resistance-induced erectile dysfunction. It is interesting secondly because the rats given the sildenafil incurred increased damage in the erectile tissue. Sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis, and we know it works as evidenced not only by scientific study but by the sheer popularity of the stuff. But this does raise the question about whether this may be doing more harm than good?

The rats given Dolichos/mucuna pruriens showed erectile improvement, the researchers state, by overcoming the oxidative stress caused by the diabetes. Better still, this is without any additional damage to the architecture of the penis.

This will not necessarily cure, treat or prevent a disease, but if you are slightly or heavily overweight and have noticed issues with weak erection strength or a loss of sex drive then you may wish to use Mucuna pruriens to boost your vitality plus lose weight.
